Introduction

“The Foundation is committed to preserving the documents relating to this Pontificate and spreading the teachings of the Church’s Magisterium. It is necessary that this patrimony of good, born in this period of history by divine grace, remain for the future generations” (John Paul II, November 4, 2003)

In 1981 the John Paul II Foundation established the Documentation and Research Center of the pontificate of John Paul II, with its headquarters at the Polish Home in Rome. The Administrative Council Chairman governs the operations of the Center. The Research Council also assists in this work. The purpose of the activities of the Center is the documentation of and research on the life and teaching of John Paul II.

The activities of the Center are subdivided as follows:
- The Documentation Division
- The Research Division

The work of these divisions includes:
- Maintaining the collections and making them available
- Preparing inventories, catalogues, bibliographies and exhibits
- Researching and popularizing the work of John Paul II
- Cooperating with institutions that have the same purposes
